Patent applications could not be used due to their rudimentary construction and were not further developed, available products are not functional or theoretical approaches cannot (yet) be developed due to the lack of calculation options. MOTEG GmbH now intends to face all these challenges. The project goal is the development and construction of a fully functional prototype of a magnetic planetary gear, taking into account all necessary side developments. The design of the planetary gear is predestined for use in mobile drive technology as a gear design with the best power-to-weight ratio. In order to be able to transfer this design with sustainable, economic success to a wide variety of application areas, it is absolutely necessary within this project to develop a suitable numerical calculation method (FEA) for a magnetic planetary gear. The limitation in this regard is that there are currently no two-dimensional calculation options for systems with non-coaxial axes of rotation. However, this is absolutely necessary for economic implementation, as otherwise three-dimensional calculations would have to be used, which increase the costs by at least three times due to the time required for development. There is extensive knowledge about the technical requirements within an electric bus, which was built up through multiple contacts with electric bus manufacturers. The battery module regularly turns out to be a critical profitability factor in electric commercial vehicles. The heart of every ancillary unit is the drive. This is largely responsible for energy efficiency, weight and installation space. Most existing ancillaries are designed for partial electrification via a low-voltage system driven by a V-belt via an internal combustion engine. Getting out of this general energy supply channel offers tremendous opportunities for energy conservation. The focus of the solution developed by MOTEG is on the development of a new electric permanent magnet motor that sets new standards worldwide in terms of energy efficiency, weight, installation space and noise development and offers the necessary flexibility for applications of hydraulic pumps and pneumatic compressors for commercial vehicles. It is well known that electric drives are much more efficient than internal combustion engines. Compared to other products available on the market, which are mainly driven by asynchronous motors, MOTEG units are up to 2 times smaller, 2 times lighter and more energy efficient.
